As winter draws its sorry ass to a close I look forward to summer. As does my liver, pummelled for the bulk of the citrus season with my favourite posprandial tipple – the old fashioned.
Recipes vary but the usual suspects are Bourbon, brown sugar, orange peel, ice and bitters. The bourbon is easy – Maker’s Mark, Woodford Reserve or Knob Creek but rather than reaching for the ‘go to’ Angostura try Fee Brothers.
I discovered it at an upstate New York distillery, but couldn’t find it in SA. As luck would have it I recently spotted it in Spar liquor store. It’ll work with your drink not against it. Trust me. Try it.
