Some pretty cool things happened back in ‘63. It was the beginning of Beatlemania, Kelloggs introduced Froot Loops and the Smiley Face was born…but for style savvy men 1963 stands out as the year Ben Sherman transformed the humble shirt from a staple item to a statement piece – perfect for the mood at the time and continues to be so more than fifty years later.

Fundamental to this new look and innovative detailing – button down collars, buttons at the back of collars and locker loops – was a signature use of bold colour and bright checks. The gingham check shirt soon became a mainstay of the seasonal Ben Sherman collections – and remains an enduring classic to this day.

How to wear it? Buttoned up of course. Buttoning up the top button is something that has always been done to Ben Sherman shirts since 1963 – a deliberate style choice that exudes ‘Britishness’.

#buttonup and set yourself apart as a man in the know.
